About

Design Manchester is an originative week-long festival, celebrating creativity, collaboration and inclusivity in the worlds of art, design, illustration, animation and photography.

Working closely with lead sponsor the Manchester School of Art, Design Manchester will bring inspirational UK and internationally renowned speakers to the city and showcase Manchester’s talented creative community.

The festival, curated with ambassador Malcolm Garrett, is a series of inspirational talks, interactive workshops and evening events, on the theme of longevity, held at Manchester Town Hall and venues across the city.

The festival is kindly supported by GF Smith and Design Week.

Longevity

This year, the speakers at Design Manchester 13 will discuss longevity.

A simple, open and inspiring theme, celebrating the importance of creativity in society in what can be challenging economic times.

Speakers will discuss sustainable design and its importance to our economic and environmental future; how to keep design fresh, new and creative in an ever-evolving world; and why print will never die.

Design Manchester 13 celebrates 175 years of the Manchester School of Art, part of Manchester Metropolitan University.

Locations

The Great Hall —
Manchester Town Hall

The Great Hall is a glazed skylight on which are inscribed the names of mayors, lord mayors and chairs of the Council since Manchester received its Charter of Corporation in 1838. The superb ceiling of the Great Hall is separated into panels bearing the arms of the principal countries and towns with which Manchester traded. The landing outside the Great Hall is known as the Bees. On the mosaic floor is a pattern of bees. The bee is symbolic of Manchester's industry and is found on the city's coat of arms.
