Lucy graduated with honours from the Rhode Island School of Design in the USA. Returning to England, she joined Pentagram Design in 1991 where she worked in David Hillman’s team for four years. She then went on to form her own consultancy and worked on the implementation of the new brand graphics for Tate Modern. This is where she began her collaboration with Alexandra Wood and together they founded Holmes Wood in 2000. Since then, Lucy has created a great many design solutions and information graphics for wayfinding schemes in the UK, USA and elsewhere. She lectures extensively and is a member of ISTD (International Society of Typographic Designers), D&AD, SEGD (Society for Environmental Graphic Design), Artangel and a Fellow of the RSA (Royal Society for the encouragement of Arts, Manufactures and Commerce).
