Design City Weekender: University of Salford pop-up fashion design studio
The University of Salford BA (hons) Fashion Design course will have a purpose built pop-up studio at the Design City Weekender in Upper Campfield Market, led by lecturer and designer Paul Marsden (studiomarsden) who will be delivering a series of workshops throughout the weekend.
Paul joined the University of Salford in 2008 as a Lecturer of Fashion Design Incorporating Pattern Cutting and Production Techniques, and has been in education since 2004 as a visiting tutor at MMU and UCLAN. In his current role, his academic interests focus on Design, Pattern Cutting and Production Techniques and he teaches across all levels of the undergraduate Fashion Design program. Overall he has spent 22 years in fashion, tailoring, design, retail management and education.
Tailoring is the mainstay of Paul’s career, starting with his apprenticeship at Savile Row brand Gieves & Hawkes, and he is now proprietor of his own Manchester based bespoke tailors. He has also worked on a variety of projects within men’s casual wear, denim, outerwear and high-end woman’s wear.
Outside his teaching role, his outside focus is on his own brand, studiomarsden, where he works with slow made fabrics, combining old and new techniques to produce garments that are about longevity.
He prefers the idea of garments as friends rather than something to be used and discarded.
