To herald the launch of this year’s Design Manchester festival we’re taking over Manchester Art Gallery for the evening, and together we’ll be hosting talks, exhibitions, debate and workshops across the space.

We’re joined by mercurial Nordic designer Henrik Vibskov who will showcase his experimental, multidisciplinary approach to his work in a presentation and Q&A. 

Since graduating from Central St. Martins in 2001, Vibskov was won numerous international fashion and design awards and has exhibited at The Museum of Art and Design and MoMA PS1, New York, Palais de Tokyo, Paris and ICA, London, to name but a few.

In other spaces Design Manchester will host a panel on the impact of Scandi design across the world, attended and chaired by leading designers and brands including:

Magnus Englund
Magnus co-founded interior design store Skandium and he is the author of the books ‘Scandinavian Modern’ and ‘Scandinavian Country’, ‘Modern Scandinavian Design’, ‘Uncle Oscar’s Chairs’ and most recently ‘Isokon and the Bauhaus in Britain’.

Romy Rawlings
Romy Rawlings is a Chartered Landscape Architect and UK Business Development Manager for Vestre, a Norwegian manufacturer of outdoor furniture.

Leanne Wookey
Leanne is a Director at TP Bennett and her expertise spans interiors for retail & hospitality, commercial workspace, student accommodation, residential and mixed-use sectors.

We have local DJ hero Pasta Paul playing in the Nordic Design exhibition upstairs.

We will also welcome Norwegian creative Lotte Karlsen who will host a Free Nordic Paper Craft workshop, paper kindly sponsored by G F Smith Papers.

The theme running throughout is a celebration of some of the smartest approaches to Scandinavian design, which can be seen in the top floors design galleries ‘Nordic Design’ exhibition. The exhibition showcasing showcasing furniture, fashion, lighting, ceramics, glass, metalwork and jewellery, Nordic Craft and Design highlights the superb quality and creativity inherent in design from the region and features pieces from 1930 to the present day.

Henrik’s talk is ticketed due to limited space and available for free in the link if sold out we will hold a few spaces for first come, first served The rest of the evening will be open to the public so if it sells out… still come!
