Dir Stanley Kubrick / UK 1971 – 136 mins
Malcolm McDowell, Patrick Magee, Adrienne Corri
Based on Anthony Burgess’ 1962 novel and set in a dystopian near-future Britain, the film follows the trail of ‘ultra-violence’ conducted by a gang of youths led by the charismatic Alex (Malcolm McDowell). His inevitable capture is followed by an attempted rehabilitation with a controversial, psychological conditioning technique. A ground-breaking film on every level, it features the hugely influential electronic score by Walter Carlos.
The screening will be introduced by Dr Graham Foster of the International Anthony Burgess Foundation in conversation with Paula Benson, the editor of ‘Film and Furniture’ website.
