Design Manchester is proud to partner with The Whitworth, Manchester Modernist Society and Friends of The Whitworth to promote the first UK exhibition of the textile designs of Barbara Brown.

Following in the footsteps of Lucienne Day, Barbara Brown became known as the golden girl of Heal’s Fabrics in the 1960s and early 1970s. Talent-spotted as a student, her designs for furnishing fabrics are some of the most striking and unusual ever produced in the 20th century and won awards from the Council of Industrial Design.

This, the first major solo exhibition of Barbara’s work in the UK, runs from 17th March to December 2017. The preview is at The Whitworth on 16th March from 6–8 pm. Partners, members and friends of Design Manchester are welcome to join us.
