Mawuena Kattah is a visual artist based in London. Kattah’s paintings draw upon an extensive personal archive of family photographs taken in Ghana and London spanning a number of decades. She brings people and pattern together in complex, vibrant compositions. The work embodies a strong sense of community, creating environments that invite the subjects of her portraits and others to share in a growing social fabric of people, artworks, ceramics and textiles. Kattah has exhibited in major contemporary art galleries and museums in the UK, including Whitechapel Gallery, Victoria & Albert Museum and Studio Voltaire. In 2017 her work was acquired by the Arts Council’s National Collection and since included in Hayward Touring/Arts Council Collection exhibitions.
