September 16th, 2016. Design Manchester today announces a new partnership with Transport for Greater Manchester to support the DM16 festival in October and play an active part in the public discussion of design in the region.

TfGM wants to encourage the best design talent in the region and is using the festival to discuss innovation and attract local companies to the TfGM framework of design suppliers.

Rafael Cuesta, TfGM’s head of innovation said: “Our mission here is to make travel easier, and good design is fundamental to making that possible. From new interchanges to remodelling junctions and roads, to timetables, journey planning apps, the colours inside a tram, or the transport network itself, all of these things are rooted in ‘design’ and are the building blocks of how we improve the experience for anyone making a journey in Greater Manchester.

“Our city region has an illustrious history of innovation and design and we are proud to play our part in that tradition and to support the current creative generation through Design Manchester, particularly given this year’s theme.”

Design Manchester’s Kasper de Graaf said: “Transport is one of the great design challenges in any major city. Our festival theme this year is Design City, so we are particularly pleased to announce our partnership with an organisation that plays such a major part in how citizens and visitors experience Greater Manchester.”
